File Hosting Website 30.06.08
I’m trying to create a file hosting website for large files with several key features. Similar websites include rapidshare.com and megaupload.com
Features:
Server load balancing: Servers will be in a several locations in clusters. Each box will be on a 1Gbps connection sharing an overall connection speed. The file hosting will be isolated from the website and upon file uploading will select the cluster location with the most available bandwidth.
File Upload: Standard html form with progress bar(showing percentages allowing file uploads upto 2GB). The standard server hosting web will be isolated from files and must select fastest cluster and then the fastest server at the cluster location. Must protect uploaded files from direct linking. Upon upload files must be scanned for malware.
Revenue Generation/File download: Allowing ads to be spread across the servers and manageable from an admin interface. Also, payments on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annually and yearly basis to remove ads, increase download speed, max storage space and file lifetime. Image-number authentication. Must support resuming broken downloads, setting download speed limitations(free/paid user), download IP limitations(free & paid users), allow users to Password Protect downloads.
