School film/web project.
Forum site with text and video footage
Video footage can be captured using webcam
Students can then answer the video through video footage or simply by text added to the site.
Registration
1. Registration process student names who wish to participate will have their details entered (firstname, lastname and email address) and they can choose a username (database checks for duplications), they are then emailed a password from the site which they have the ability to change.
2. This information will be entered manually by a student administrator, so should be easy to use
3. Set up for forgotten password email facility
4. Use of cookies to store user preferences, last page visited, last logged in, forums, private messages etc
Using the site Forums/Polls
1. Can only use the forum if registered, security tight.
2. Bad language editor for text.
3. We haven’t decided whether to allow students to post their forum video and text directly to the site or to allow for a system of moderation and content management. Please allow for this when submitting your bid.
4. All users with webcams should be able to download a free software which allows them to directly load their video, in the correct format, to the site.
Similar to what has been set up by YouTube with quickcapture.
If this is a major issue then we will have to record all footage in one place and change the scope and method’s with which we administer the site and add the footage. Any suggestions welcome.
5. Once information (Video/text) is posted then the student responsible for the forum should be contacted by email when there are responses and also displayed when they log on
6. All forums and key words within forums, usernames and topics have to be searchable a strong search facility must be available
7. All forums will have the ability to be rated by forum users top ten forums will be displayed by this ranking and/or number of threads/forum users.
How it could work.
1. Student has an idea they wish to express by video or text.
2. Each forum will have a unique identifier created in the database.
3. You then have a forum with title, text and video footage which can be replied to by other students by video from webcam and/or text.
Summary
This project has to be completed in the next 3-4 weeks.
It’s for students and will be managed by students so simplicity is important.
The video element is important and the use of web cams should not be inhibited by costly software.
I am open to suggestion on methods to build this well.
The site must be W3 compliant, SEO optimised on all content in website and meta tags.
