Ubuntu Linux Server Project 16.03.08
Ubuntu Linux Server Project. I will be configuring linux server(s) to meet the requirements of a variety of clients. This project is in the initial stages. Currently, I am meeting roadblocks pertaining to my own understanding of server set up and configuration. I am looking for someone who can mentor me to fill the gaps in my own knowledge about server set up, help me solve server related issues as they appear along the way, and help me decide which technologies are best to accomplish a variety of business related requirements now and into the future. I am expecting that most solutions will prove to be quite straight forward.
Goals of the project. The server will be an effective firewall to the internet. It will log in preconfigured “dumb” client terminals with minimum hardware. The server will permit individuals to log in to the LAN using either a linux based or windows based machine with the appropriate passwords, serve them available software, and allow access to the internet and their own email through the server. Over time, we will continue to grow the features of the server beyond these basics. Presently, the server connects a client computer using NFS and SSH. It only provides access to a couple of data folders and no software.
The current problem is that a client computer running Ubuntu linux cannot access the internet by opening its resident copy of Firefox.
I am assuming the problem relates to IP addresses and port forwarding.
Initially, I want to solve this problem (endless internet searching has not helped) and complete the basic configuration of a server for the project. All work will be done in Webmin if possible and from the command line when necessary. I am expecting that an hour or two of consultation may be required to solve the internet connection problem and several more hours to help me complete the initial configuration. Future consultation can be negotiated based on further discussion of the project and on the complexity of future problems to solve.One last requirement: I am looking for someone who still remembers how to speak and write in plain English (if that is possible considering all the linux Geek Speek out there –forgive my spelling– ).
